At the Lodge

Ohio's newest state park, Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center offers a wide variety of activities and adventures for kids of all ages. The park began to take shape in 1975 along the Lake Erie shoreline, and the park's elegant lodge and outstanding conference facilities have proven ideal for business meetings, family vacations and other gatherings since it opened in 1991.

Maumee Bay Lodge is a 20-minute drive from downtown Toledo and close to popular northwest Ohio attractions such as Port Clinton, Put-In-Bay and Cedar Point. Easily accessible, it is within a two-hour drive of Cleveland and Detroit and three hours from Columbus.

There are plenty of activities every month of the year at Maumee Bay State Park Lodge.

Hiking

Developed hiking trails include the Mouse Trail, a three-mile trail that winds through meadows and woods, and several miles of trails for hiking, bicycling and cross-country skiing. There is a 2-mile boardwalk, adjacent to the lodge, that winds through swamp and marsh wetlands, has interpretive signs, an observation blind and tower and is a wheelchair accessible loop. Other walking and hiking trails are located throughout the park.

Biking

Miles of paved biking trails wind throughout the park. These trails are newly paved and offer a flat, smooth surface. The Lodge maintains an extensive inventory of adult and children bikes. Infant seats are available at no charge. Bike rental rates are $7 for the first hour and $3 for each additional hour. Bike rentals are available from May - October.

Fishing

Lodge guests are just steps away from Lake Erie, the "walleye capital of the world." The lake offers some of the best fishing experiences in the region and catfish, freshwater drum, small mouth bass and yellow perch are abundant. A man-made inland lake near the lodge offers additional fishing opportunities.

Exercise

A fitness room at the Lodge offers a complete line of cardiovascular and weight-training equipment. Equipment includes trend mills, elliptical and step climbing machines, a stationary bike and a weight training set. Free weights and exercise pads are also available.

Geocaching

There are at least seven caches located inside the park and several others can be found outside of the park. Navigational units can be rented at the front desk. Educational information about geocaching is available to beginning cachers.

A free lending library is located in the main lobby.

Designed by Arthur Hills, the course measures 6,136 yards from the white tees with a slope of 122 and U.S.G.A. rating of 69.6 all the way to 6,941 yards from the championship gold tees with a slope of 129 and U.S.G.A. rating of 73.3. The course is the site of regional qualifying for the U.S. Open. For tee times, call the pro shop at 419.836.9009.

Adjacent to the game room is a small room with tables and chairs (16 people) that is perfect place to enjoy snacks and pizza. Please see front desk to reserve a time for the room.

Cross-Country Ski, Ice Skate, Sled

Some say the park is at its prettiest with a dusting of snow on the ground. Plenty of outdoor, as well as indoor activities await the winter visitor such as cross-country skiing, ice skating and sledding. Sleds are available complimentary and cross-country skiers can be rented at the front desk.

View Wildlife

In the spring and fall, visitors to Maumee Bay State Park can view warblers, flycatchers, vireos, tanagers and orioles from the boardwalk adjacent to the lodge. From November through April, visitors will find plentiful waterfowl as well as occasional tundra swans. This wetland habitat is also where monarch butterflies are raised, tagged and released each year. The Trautman Nature Center at Maumee Bay State Park offers state-of-the-art interpretive exhibits, interactive computer displays, an auditorium and wildlife feeding stations visible from viewing windows.

Nature Center

The Trautman Nature Center offers a variety of interpretive programs regularly to explore the nature and history of the park. For example, the Maumee Bay area occupies an important place in the history of the State of Ohio. The park is the site of numerous significant Native American occurrences. The area was once known as the Great Black Swamp because of the color of the soil and dark shade beneath the trees. Natives Americans, including the Ottawas and Wyandots, settled only near the well-drained lands beside the Maumee River and its tributaries. The nature center is located only a few hundred yards from the Lodge building.

Just for Kids

Maumee Bay provides Friday evening and hourly Saturday activities year-round. Children's activities are also provided on weekdays throughout the summer. Movie nights with complimentary popcorn at the start of the movie have become a treasured tradition at Maumee Bay. The children play games or participate in arts and crafts. They can also burn some energy at the outdoor playground. Many also enjoy visiting the arcade adjacent to the indoor courts.

Racquetball/Wallyball

Two beautiful hardwood courts are available for either racquetball or wallyball (indoor volleyball). Reservations can be made by contacting the front desk. All equipment is available for complimentary use.

New Children's Soft Play Area

A pirate ship and ocean scene provide the perfect spot for kids to explore their imagination in our new Soft Play Area.  This area can be used by kids of all ages when available, but top priority is given to children who are 42" tall or shorter.
